PepsiCo delivered third-quarter financial results that outpaced Wall Street projections, though management simultaneously trimmed its full-year profit forecast as the company executes a turnaround strategy for its domestic market.

Key Financial Results
Revenue: Climbed 5.6% year over year to reach $25.27 billion, edging past analyst expectations of approximately $25 billion.

Earnings: Adjusted earnings per share reached $2.34, topping the $2.29 consensus estimate compiled by Bloomberg.

Tailwinds: Results received a $178 million boost from tariff refunds during the quarter, which particularly aided the beverage division.

Market Response: Company shares advanced roughly 1% during early trading sessions following the announcement.

Guidance and Cost Pressures
While PepsiCo reaffirmed expectations for net revenue growth to hit the upper end of its target range at around 6% for fiscal 2026, it dialed back its core earnings per share growth forecast. The metric is now anticipated to land between 2.5% and 3%, down from its previous baseline range of 5% to 7%.

Executives pointed to escalating input expenses and broader macroeconomic inflation as primary drivers for the adjustment. Chief Financial Officer Stephen Schmitt noted that commodity pressures are mounting, while CEO Ramon Laguarta announced plans to implement structural cost-cutting measures—hinting at potential future workforce reductions—to offset inflation and fund organic growth initiatives.

Strategic Shifts: Pricing and Portfolio Innovation
To combat rising operational expenses, PepsiCo intends to roll out a 15% price hike over the year. This follows an earlier experimental price reduction that successfully reversed low-single-digit volume declines, lifting volume, unit sales, and market share in the U.S. snacks segment—though it temporarily compressed the North American core operating margin by 280 basis points. Management emphasized that upcoming pricing increases will remain below 25% to protect consumer demand.

Product innovation also played a vital role in recent performance:

Snacks & Health Focus: Offerings highlighting portion control, simpler ingredients, protein, and fiber drove strong results, led by brands like NKD, Doritos Protein, and Lays Baked with Olive Oil.

Beverages: Sales were propelled by lower-sugar Gatorade options and zero-sugar Pepsi Treats.

M&A Outlook: Leadership noted they remain open to strategic, smaller “tuck-in” acquisitions in both food and beverage categories, following their 2025 acquisition of Poppi.
